The Thinker of Tender Thoughts

So so beautiful.

“This photograph is my proof. There was that afternoon, when things were still good between us, and she embraced me, and we were so happy. It did happen. She did love me. Look for yourself.”
This is my proof, Duane Michals, 1974

"My Body is a Temple is an on-going photographic series where I create Tibetan mandalas from everyday junk food item and other comestible elements."Sylvain Dumais

Unknown by Iosif Kiraly.

Really love the haphazard nature of these images and their construction - it is as if they have been put together to remember something, to make it more vivid by fleshing it out with different angles.

'Passengers' by John Schabel.

Recently when I drive past the airport I get quite nostalgic/sad and I'm not really sure why. I find that feeling whilst waiting for a flight to depart so unusual. These voyeuristic photos by Schabel are lovely depictions of how other people behave- I guess for some it can purely be a logistical thing like placing your bag above your head and getting ready to sleep.

"For about three years in the 90's, New York-based photographer John Schabel took on a voyeuristic project involving people seated on planes, as seen through the aircrafts' porthole windows. Unbeknownst to the anonymous flyers, the photographer would snap shots of them with a telephoto lens from a safe distance, nearly 100 yards away. The series, titled Passengers, reveals intriguing portraits of the unknowing travelers powerlessly waiting for their flight to takeoff. Some of them appear to be anxiously preparing themselves for the trip while others have already begun their slumber."

Even If I Spent 2004.

Technology is blurring your reality, perception and memory, and a constant reminder of what was or what you were.

"If all our past activities, transgressions or not, are always present, how can we disentangle ourselves from them in our thinking and decision making."

"But because of digital technology, society's ability to forget has become suspended, replaced by perfect memory."

- V. Mayer -Schonberger, Delete p.4-5

Technology's ability to censor.
Escapism through Technology

Distortion through technology

I said aloud: ‘I don’t want to miss anything.’
And then misery came rushing back like a river that has been dammed up. I tried to open my heart to it, to welcome it as a part of my life’s experience, and at first that made it easier to bear. Then it got worse than ever before - it was physical as well as mental, my heart and ribs and shoulders and chest, even my arms, ached.”
- I Capture the Castle.

On a Side Note:
I work in a place (I am forbidden to mention where I work on social media - sozzy) where the soundtrack largely consists of Beach House, Fleet Foxes, Frances Gall, and Miles Davies - so when this bad boy came on the playlist today I had to double take the company's iPod. It is actually the most hilarious song to hear when you are in quasi serious environment, I have no idea how it made the cut. When my coworker reminded me of how much time I still had before I got to leave, she apologised and played this song to cheer me up. Give it a whirl, amazing. Maybe play it when you feel like crap, ultimate remedy.

The Woman Imprisoned Under Water

More inspiration into my exploration of thought distortion, the suppression of memory, mind over matter and time lapsing. These concepts and ideas personally resonate and fascinate me, and also hold the potential for beautiful and alluring visuals.
