Do it!

I don't do the petition thing normally but this is something that is really unjust: I just signed this petition to ban live export in Australia - the stories are really freaking horrific. All you do is sign - that is it! They send you one email afterwards and then you can opt out from any other communication!

Recently in Pakistan the company that imported Australian sheep stated they were diseased - (even though tests revealed they were not) and they were slaughtered with blunt knives, chased down and bull-dozed into mass graves screaming and writhing - completely fucked up and inhuman. PLEASE SIGN HERE. The pictures are horrible. If you can handle looking - go for it, but I just covered the screen with my hand and signed to the right.

Even if you don't really care (how the hell not?) - do it for me :)

PS if you are wondering why you landed up at this post when you were looking for 'stockings under jeans',  I tagged this post at that so more traffic would come here. The number one Google'd entry for people who arrive at my blog is 'stockings under jeans' (weird - i know). Look how I'm clever like dat ;)

TwentyTwo

Today is my birthday, happy birthday to me :) Last night I was so happy to have my nearest and dearest with me for a couple of drinks (give or take a few) and today I got spoilt rotten by my family. Photos to come. In the mean time here are some links and images of a few things that have made me smile or inspired me...

Heavenly shots of drag racing?... no for real, beautiful!

Baby elephant on the beach :)

I'm excited to see this one, for fans of Australian cinema.

It was a big one!

Leather shoes give me the blues

I have decided not to eat lamb anymore, even though it is one of the nicest meats, it is all in the name - 'lamb'. It is a baby and even if I wanted to, I'd feel so sick and sad if I tried to eat it anymore. I've also started to stop purchasing leather like its fine, and while I realise really no other material matches up to it's durability I am questioning all future leather purchases, where did it come from and what animal? I think it is about time I started being a responsible and educated buyer. I'm about complete on a design project that called upon the use of leather, which if I admit, would of made it beautiful, but it is not what I'm about anymore and I made use of a different material that was the perfect substitute and I could feel good about my choice. I've also recently developed sensitive skin and I'm currently in the process of looking for a good moisturiser that isn't animal tested, if you have any suggestions that would be great.

Everyone is talking about 'being green' and saving the environment, and I agree it is pretty important. There is large corporations that are making steps towards being sustainable. It is in fashion. However, what about actual live stock, things with hearts and minds. Animals rights has always been associated with raging lunatics throwing red paint, and I don't think that should deter people from being open about their choices regarding animal products. Being against animal cruelty is not uncool. I'd hate to think of any of my babies suffering horrible fates and the reality is that many animals do. I recently heard on the radio that workers at a Sydney abattoir were charged with animal cruelty for brutally bashing pigs with metal rods, but then as they had 'learnt their lesson' were allowed to continue their work. I can't tell you on how many levels this upsets and angers me. They clearly should not be in such a profession. I won't lie and say I am fully educated on the facts of animal cruelty or methods of leather etc -  I cannot face looking up all the stories and details because I'd be depressed for eternity, but it is a no-brainer on what happens and how one can help.  I am no where near where I want to be, but I am starting.  I have heard about Stella McCartney doing an Animal-Friendly line and initiatives like this should continue. I really hope one day there is an accessible alternative to leather and everyone can embrace it.  (Don't get me started on fur or I will start throwing red paint)

So beautiful.

Around 30 dolphins got beached on a shore in Brazil and starting 'screaming' in pain, so heaps of beach goers went in and dragged them back into the sea and saved their lives! So lovely.

Shelter

This series of photographs entitled 'Shelter Dogs' by Traer Scott hits home because all three of my babies are dogs from the RSPCA. There is nothing more rewarding knowing that you have saved a little life when they are the kindest, most loyal living thing you know. I think the photographs speak for the selves. If you are considering getting a dog, please don't look past an animal shelter - unfortunately some of the following dogs pictured were put down because no body saved them.. From My Modern Met: "Shelter Dogs, the book, is available at ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) website with 100% of the proceeds going to that non-profit organisation."

I love animals.

So yesterday I almost plunged my car into on coming traffic because I thought I was going to run over a bird. The bird survived thanks to my mastering of the steering wheel. Though my mum in the passenger seat was a little rattled and saw her life flash before her eyes, though she is now fine too. I've been hearing way too much about animal cruelty and the killing of animals lately, I couldn't stand the thought that I would add to it all.
